CDFA live-plants label helper
A free Firefox extension that makes the 4 x 6 inch "LIVE PLANTS – INSPECTION REQUIRED / NO SOIL" label for cactus and succulent shipments within California. Fill a short form, download a PDF, print it on a thermal label printer. Nothing is sent to any server; your addresses stay in your browser.
Install in Firefox (v2.2.0)
Desktop Firefox only. Firefox will ask "Add Rare Cactus CDFA label helper?" Click Add, then Okay. It stays installed after restarts and updates itself.
How to use it
- Click the green label icon in the Firefox toolbar. If you do not see it, click the puzzle-piece Extensions button, find "Rare Cactus CDFA label helper" and click the pin so it shows in the toolbar.
- The first time, type your own name and address in the From box. It is remembered for next time.
- Type the recipient in the To box, one line per row, name first.
- Pick the contents, botanical name, quantity and unit. Choose "Other" to type your own. The declarations and inspection lines can be edited too.
- Click Download PDF (or Open + print). Print at 100% scale on a 4 x 6 label. Sign and date the label by hand.
Pirate Ship shortcut
If you buy postage on Pirate Ship, a small grey "watching" pill appears bottom-right on its pages. When a shipment's Ship To address is in California, it becomes a green button. Click it and the label form opens with that recipient already filled in.
Questions
- Do not see the install prompt? Firefox may have downloaded the file instead. Open it from your Downloads (or drag it onto a Firefox window) and click Add.
- Using Chrome, Edge or Safari? Not supported. This is a Firefox extension.
- Wrong wording for your state? Everything on the label is editable before you download it.
